I hear the Cyndi Lauper version at weddings all of the time. My best guy friend Kevin just got married and this version played and it was the only song my current boyfriend Nick would dance with me to because all of the other music “sucked” so he said. This is when I told him I helped pick the music for the wedding and he went red in the face with only an, “Oh,” being uttered. :)

I have never seen the movie, but I have read the description for it. I have also never been to Philadelphia, but I always here about big cities out east that have people living in them with big dreams that turn out to be a bitter reality. This song is almost a sad clarification of a harsh reality. All we really have is each other. “Aint no angel gonna save me, it’s just you and I my friend…”

He and I have been the bestest of friends since the sixth grade. We even tried to “date” in seventh and eighth grades, but the romance only budded, never blossomed. However, ever since we were old enough to attend school dances in Austin, MN, we always slow danced to this song all the way up to senior prom! This is and always be our song. Forgiven by Within Temptation
Within Temptation’s music has a spiritual undertone to it. I have had a falling out with faith a few times in my life. This song to me speaks of God’s willingness to forgive those who have strayed from faith. It makes me sad because I doubt a lot of things in my life still, however this song also helps restore peace to my soul.

Big Girl (You are Beautiful) by Mika
I have struggled with my weight for a long time, especially when I was in cheer leading in high school. I was one of the heavier girls and my senior year the dance team took over the squad. So we had skinny girls wandering around in some kind of new uniform that looked like an ugly unitard and then there was me. I looked like a pig struggling in a spandex suit. To make matters worse, my weight escalated once school was over. I am still trying to get healthier and have lost a bit of weight, but this song keeps me in good spirits when I am having an off day. Nobody is perfect and “no body” is perfect as well. I am learning to be comfortable in my skin and make better choices and this song keeps me happy.

When You Love Someone by Bryan Adams
Not only was this supposed to be one of my wedding songs, but the person with whom I was supposed to marry who chose this song, treated me like dirt. Sadly, I would listen to this song after we would have a fight and it reminded me that love is a sacrifice. It is a beautiful song and I do like it, but I used this song to sucker punch myself into staying in an abusive relationship. So, it holds bad memories for me.
Day one of the 30 Day Music Challenge: Your Favorite Song.
Little Bird by Annie Lennox is by far my favorite song of all time. This is my,”Get your butt off the couch and do something,” song. My,”Stop feeling sorry for yourself cause you are woman,” my,”Hellz yea, today is a great day,” and my,”I just don’t give a ….,” song. It gets me pumped and keeps me going through the good, the great, and the down right miserable in my life. I could never get sick of this song and it will hold meaning for me for all of my life.
I can remember walking through my uncle’s home in San Diego, CA. I was one and I believe I was looking for my mom.

I started this blog because of my friend Steven Edwards. He has currently been partaking in the 30 day music challenge and I thought it would be fun to do the same. Hopefully I can keep up with it everyday, considering my college schedule, work schedule and semi-social life seem to eat away at a lot of my time.
